By providing your consent to share your personal and clinical information, you will allow healthcare providers, who are participants in the CareConnect HIE, to be able to work together more efficiently to provide you with the care that you need. CareConnect may only facilitate the sharing and accessing of your personal information through the HIE if you have provided valid consent to the healthcare organisations participating in the HIE to do so.

Without your consent, your information will not be shared or accessible to those healthcare providers who treat you. To ensure that you have real control over your personal information and choice in how it will be used, you may choose to withdraw your consent at any time such that your information will no longer be shared.
The CareConnect HIE facilitates the exchange of information between medical schemes, clinicians and hospitals. Access to patient information depends on the role of the user. For example, an administrative person will not be permitted to access your clinical information but will only have access to your demographic information, while a clinicians and others treating you will be granted permission to access your clinical information.
Information security and confidentiality of information are of utmost importance to CareConnect. As such, we comply with all applicable laws governing the processing of personal information; the protection of personal information; patient / member consent; and data protection.

Laws which have informed CareConnect’s compliance to the security and protection of information include; the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA); the Medical Schemes Act (MSA); the National Health Act (NHA); and, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union.
